[The brightening of her expression is a little puzzling, but he's not about to question it. Instead, he watches her with a relaxed air as she steps out from behind her desk, intent on getting him settled in.
It's here that he realizes: she's tiny.
Not in a child-like way, certainly not. But she's a bit shorter than Akane, which was saying something. Beyond her stature being on the smaller side, she's amazingly petite. He's almost afraid to stand next to her, knowing he'll be that much taller. But he follows her anyway, of course, a respectful step or two behind (this would be difficult on the field, one step of his is like three steps for her).
Her next comment is startling, though welcome. She'd kept it tidy? Gino blinks, the motion a bit owlish.]
Ah, thank you. You didn't have to; I'll make sure it stays that way.
[Sen had always been used to people towering over her; heck, her entire unit was much taller. Which was why she was unaware of Ginoza's surprise, all she thought was that he was as tall as she imagined. And she may have looked at his file.
He was very strict with protocol, keeping his step behind her, which she suspected was a bit of a struggle for him, so she did pick up her own pace. Personally she would've rather slowed down so that they could walk together, since it wasn't as if they were in a formal situation, it was just helping him getting acquainted with her part of the building.
She looked over her shoulder before stepping to the side to address him more easily.]
It's fine, it will be your desk now, so you can do with it as you see fit. We maybe colleagues, but you are also a guest to our unit.
[And then she turns and takes him to his desk. The only one that was still bare compared to all the other desks, some covered on snacks and whatnot (not because they were a workaholic). His files were already sorted and labelled, since she didn't know how he liked to organise, and a new pens and stationary to go with them. And why not, there's a pot plant too.]
[Protocol is what he's always fallen back on. It was comfortable, familiar. However, since working with Akane, he's figured out ways to bend the rules here and there to enable a better mission success rate. The flexibility made him nervous at first, too used to doing everything by the book. Now, he still is a bit anxious, but much less so. After all, if Akane asks him to jump, he'll ask how high– she's never led him astray.
He gets the feeling that Sen is similar. She has a comforting presence that speaks of her natural way of being personable. For someone as high strung as he is, it's a comfort.]
Thank you, I hope I'll be able to work well with the team.
[And that's that, the small frivolities of greeting and polite conversation. He reaches out as he steps up to the desk, un-gloved hand running fingers across the surface. There's a small plant tucked in the corner; it makes his lips curve up a little. Does she know he has a license for gardening? Probably.
Even so, it's thoughtful and he finds himself wholly endeared.]

[[ c. 2 weeks later ]]
[What he doesn't know– no, what he didn't foresee was just how attached he was going to get to Unit 4.
Or more specifically, to his tiny overhead Inspector. She hasn't gotten him wrapped around her pinky (yet), not like Akane, but the pulling effect is the same. He finds, even if it's not a command, that if she asks for him to do something, he can't refuse. Thankfully, she's a reasonable sort, so he doesn't worry about being sent on some inane task.
Today is no different. They're on a mission (simple: flush the enemy out or corner them and bring them in). It's become easy to work with the group, they're cohesive and understood how he operated almost as soon as he'd gotten on the team. A relief, after coming from a team that worked much the same. He hadn't been sure of the dynamic, but now he can officially say it was perfectly fine. Of course, he missed working with those who were more familiar, but at least this temporary move isn't turning out too badly.]
Shepherd one, this is Hound three. How does it look?
[It feels like they're closing in, but he's not sure.]
[It really didn't feel like two weeks. It felt as if Ginoza had been with the team all along, or at least that was what Sen thought. She had grown attached to him; he was easy to talk to (contrary to popular belief), worked hard and efficiently, and experienced. Their cases weren't at all difficult, but she felt that with him there, they were all a walk in the park.
Sen didn't want to think about it, the day Ginoza will have to go back to his division. In a way, she envied Akane for having him in her team, even if he used to be her superior. What a strong team.
He worked well with their division too. The rumour flying around was that Ginoza was a little difficult to work with, but they were all pleasantly surprised. Which mean that unless there were this mission gave them some nasty present, everything should be fine. They were all in position to close in.]
This is Shepherd one. It is all clear. Everyone is in position, we can commence shortly.
[It appeared all clear. There was a nagging feeling in her head that something was out of place. Their cases had been easy, but this was all too easy. She could see her colleagues all in position from her perch in the warehouse, and all is well. All she needed to do now was move in herself, and they can commence their raid. Bad feeling aside, if they leave this for any longer, their targets will know they're there. She rounds past the boxes, her dominator out--]
[He’s a bit anxious, really. It’s part of his personality, to worry and fret over the small things. This was why he and Kougami worked well, and then he and Akane. Neither of them fretted as much as he did, taking things in stride and just working through them with their knife-sharp minds.
A small part of him wishes they were here. Their presence is a comfort, even though he’s getting on well with Sen and her group. Well, a familiar comfort.
But, here is neither the place nor the time to be dwelling on such things. Focusing, he listens for Sen’s order, perfectly still as she quietly gives an all clear. As soon as she takes her hand off the proverbial leash, he’s moving, Dominator out in front of him and steady, steady. He takes out one, two targets, paralyzer leaving them on the ground.
Gino’s about to put additional cuffs on, as protocol, when he sees a third one dart out from the side. This is a big group, and the other Enforcers are wrangling their sections. Surprised, he immediately goes to chase the runaway. They round a corner and he can only feel a sense of dawning horror when the man runs straight towards Sen. It’s a collision course, and if he pulls the Dominator now, it’ll mix the Inspector in with the criminal.]
[Ah, Ginoza, it's okay Sen frets just like you. Alright, maybe not as bad, but as long as she doesn't have a reason to be anxious, then all is well. In the case of work, however, she tries her best to keep a clear mind. In a way, it was almost akin to a hunting instinct, but not one she enjoys, just one she has to do. Which is why she knows he's showing signs of anxiousness, and the only way she can ease that would be to prove to him that all will be well under her command.
Everything was going well. Well enough? Nothing has happened that required them to kill anyone yet, and all they were doing was detaining their targets.
That is, until she saw movement in the corner of her eye midst handcuffing her targets and heard Ginoza call out to her. Reflexively she turned her dominator over towards the target charging towards her. Did she block their escape route, or they didn't expect her to be here? Either way it looked like their plans changed and she was going to be part of it.
There was no time for her dominator to set up and blast the oncoming threat, and so she dropped her hand instead and aimed a solid hit into the runaway's abdomen while leaping off to the side.]
Now, Ginoza!
[He has the time, he has a good aim. However midst her flinging her body to the side and throwing the blow into their target, she found herself colliding into some stacks and falling on her leg awkwardly that had her lower side suddenly seize up in pain.
Not that it matters because her dominator-holding arm is still working, and she is able to whip it up once more.]
[ Gino doesn’t waste a fraction of second following her orders. The words are still leaving her mouth when he has his Dominator up and ready, eyes glowing with the telltale voice over system. Sybil’s judgment passes and as soon as the trigger unlocks, he’s shooting the runaway right on the spinal cord. Its effect is immediate, and the man locks up, dropping like a stone afterwards.
Only partially relieved, he holsters the gun and jogs the rest of the way to the now immobile victim. Crouching, he completes the detainment by cuffing the punk, sure to make the handcuffs tight enough not to slip. That finished, he goes over to Sen, offering a hand up. ]
[Sen breathes a sigh of relief when Ginoza does what he does best; take aggressors down. Fortunately, the runaway wasn't at a level where matters would get worse.
After putting away her dominator, she patiently watches as Ginoza detains the new victim, taking a moment to catch her breath. Now it's uneventful, but as her body is still throbbing in pain, she knows she's not in the clear yet. How unsightly of her.
So when Gino came to offer a hand up? She had a feeling, but she needed to confirm it. Taking his offered hand, she tried to pull herself up, but her leg gave way.]
[ Runaway detained and aggressors down for the count. All that's left is the cleanup, which is what will happen when the rest of them rendezvous and help round all the criminals up on the detainment vehicle.
But for now, there's something else to be considered. He helps to pull Sen up from the ground, but her weight gives way. Before she can fully fall back, he catches her, grip firm but not bruising. Partially standing like this makes him realize (again) how much smaller she is in comparison to him. Everything about her is so delicate, even though he knows she can hold her own on the field (has seen her do it multiple times over). ]
Everyone suffers an injury at some point; there's nothing to be ashamed of.
[ He's gotten himself injured doing less, honestly. ]
Here, hold onto my shoulder.
[ Whenever she does, she's getting gently swept off her feet. ]
[This is definitely not the best time for her to throw commands around, but was considering asking Ginoza to bring the medical team over here to just drag her sorry self out of this place.]
A-ah, thank you. [She leans into him once he catches her, trying not to put too much weight on her injured side. To have your commander injured on a war field is never a good sign. It was a good thing that they finished all their work.
But he's right, there's really nothing to be ashamed of. She is disappointed in herself, for sure, for not being more aware. That being said, she shouldn't be complaining when Ginoza has seen and endured worse. He's very strong, in her mind.]
I guess it was just too unexpected. [She was caught by surprise after all.
Sen raises her eyebrow in confusion when he asks her to hold onto his shoulder, and she does. She didn't expect to be gently swept off her feet and into his arms, which Gino would be able to tell when she suddenly grips onto the collar of his coat. It's hard to hide the colour on her face as he does this, because he's so close and it feels warm and safe here.
Exactly what is going on in your mind right now, Sen? Now is not the time! She tries to tell herself this, but it is difficult when her eyes just wander over to look at his face.]
Thank you, really. I will make it up to you after this is all over.
[ By how she tenses, fingers curling into his coat with some urgency, he knows she hadn't quite been prepared for the motion. To make up for it, he gently adjusts his grip, making sure she was supported and trying to take some strain off the leg that had endured an injury. Her gaze flicks up to his face and he glances down, expression a bit puzzled at first. ]
What for? I'm here to help ensure your safety, Inspector.
[ Because that's what Enforcers did. They were in charge of getting their hands dirty, of doing the heavy lifting or the morally grey actions so their clear-hued Inspectors wouldn't have to. A small smile curls up the corner of his mouth as he thinks on it, how Akane and Sen's teams are. How they want to keep their petite (but strong, so strong) Inspectors safe from harm.
Dutifully, he carries her to the medical team, only relinquishing his grasp when she's getting fussed over by the nurses that'd been sent over in a rush. Hopefully, her injury wouldn't be too bad off. ]
[Everything is a surprise today, and it wasn't even meant to be. Just your average case, one you can finish and then go back to headquarters and just take the rest of the day off (aside from paperwork). But other than the injury, she is now being carried by Gino to to the medics.
Even though her team worries about her whenever she finds herself getting a little bit more hands on, they probably wouldn't do this and now will spend the rest of the week laughing at her ("So, that enforcer, eh. Strong hands, right.") He doesn't seem to realise that this one motion is having more of an effect on her than she had expected.]
It might be your job, but you still do not need to go the extra mile to keep me safe. For that I am truly grateful.
[Cool and collected? Nailed it (mostly). At this distance, she is able to look at him more closely, how his hair moved before those eyes and how his lips curled up to a slight smile. But this is really embarrassing, so if she could punch herself in the face, she would.
She isn't sure if she is disappointed or relieved when she is finally sitting on the gurney.]
A-ah, I'm fine! [She's insisting as she's getting scolded (for once). She gives an awkward look at Ginoza before a slight shrug in amusement.] I was in good hands. [...literally?]
[ He really doesn't realise it. Even if said team teased him about it later, it would likely go over his head completely. Gino's never put the focus of his life on relationships. Why would he, now that he's a latent criminal? Who would want to sully their clean crime coefficient over him?
It doesn't matter that he's thought of it before. Thought of doing it, himself, for the sake of gaining Shinya back. But that's neither here nor there. The other man is gone out of his life, and he doubts he'll ever be able to find him. So instead, he'll keep himself in the now. And now, he's grateful for Sen and her team for treating him so graciously. ]
Of course I do, Inspector. We can't very well lose our babysitter.
[ Gino says it in light jest– it was the joke of the MWPSB. Inspectors are the babysitters, or even the petsitters. Enforcers were children or dogs to keep an eye on. ]
Momentarily useful hands. [ He's thankful for the time he's spent strengthening himself. Otherwise this would've turned out a lot different. The nurses seem happy with that answer, and soon Sen's got a neat little wrap around her foot and part of her leg. She's still going to need some assistance, of course. Which he's more than happy to provide; cue round two on carrying. This time, it's to the transport vehicle heading back towards the tower. ]
You should take it easy for the next few days.
[ Yes, he's worrying five seconds into sitting down in the vehicle. No, he won't stop. ]
[If she knew that was what he thought, whether or not she was involved, she would tell him off. Latent criminals are human too, and in come cases, they were just more sensitive to emotions than others. Even she thought it was unfair, and they deserve to be loved and respected like the rest. After all, she's spent so much time with them to understand how they tick. Quite honestly, she didn't really care.
But it didn't stop her managing a smile at his joke.] Forgive me for passing that job onto you today. But in a way, you still were my senior, no?
[He still acts like an inspector. Worries like one, his work bench is so tidy she wonders if it was tidier than even hers. If to be compared to a pet, he wasn't a hound. He had to be something more majestic. Probably more great dane than if he was a doberman.]
They're strong hands. By the way. [Immediately she cleared her throat because she didn't know why she said that. Why did she say that?! Thank the deities no one is listening?! Maybe?! It might be why she's looking more red than she was the last time he carried her.
Again, thankful that she's settled down before she makes a bigger fool of herself. Bless the heavens that Ginoza is either not picking up on it, or he's choosing not to. Or his nitpicking saved her. Thank you, Gino's Nitpicking.]
I recover quite quickly, so you shouldn't worry. Which means you can look forward to me repaying you. [She's insisting.]
There's nothing to forgive. [ He means it. She should be kept safe. The priority of an Enforcer, at all times. Even as an Inspector, he would've done the same thing. Leaving a team without a leader is effectively crippling it. How dangerous it would be, if someone targeted that specifically. ]
I wouldn't follow my example, Inspector.
[ Too many mistakes, too many flaws. ]
Ah?
[ Her comment throws him a bit– that wasn't something he'd been expecting. Of course, it was quiet comment, nothing too outrageous. If she looks more red, he can't really tell. It could just be their closeness is making her warmer than usual. It could be the lighting. Or the wind. Or things that he's not good at differentiating between. ]
Please, it's not necessary. I'm happy to be of assistance in anything. [ His words are in earnest, tone level and warm. There's a small smile curling up the corner of his mouth, gaze a bit softer than usual. Gino's found himself becoming more and more fond of her as the days passed; this moment is no different. Sen is insistent on fair play and he finds it completely endearing. It helps that the two of them are amiable and somewhat like minded. The air between them is relaxed and comfortable on the way back to the tower– clean up has already been sent out to deal with the mess. ]
[Those were humble words, of a man who puts his duty above all else. Sen could understand this was why he could be considered difficult to work with: how much he cared for his team and his mission, whether he was a strict inspector, or a talented enforcer.
An inspector being turned into an enforcer? It's counted as a demotion. Nothing that will get you respect. He probably put himself down a lot because of this, but somehow, Sen knows that having not to worry about the condition of your psycho-pass, the state of your authority amongst your peers, it could be liberating. Ginoza may be a realist, but he needs more confidence. Not that she could talk, really. Especially after stuffing up and letting her mouth do the work before her mind. She could only be thankful that Gino decided to not further question that. Because she doesn't know how to answer.
Clearing her throat again--] A-ah, no it might not be necessary, but it is something I want to do. Our...ah...time together is short, no? I am allowed to treat you to something? I just don't know what you'd like. [She had to pay him back for all his hard work recently too. She was thinking of throwing a small party, just a small office lunch with all their peers, nothing extravagant. But it doesn't mean she can't give him more than that, she can do more for someone she's beginning to grow close to, right? Besides, he looks more relaxed like this, even after she suffered an injury. It's nice to see him like this, soft and pleasant. It rubs off on her, too.
With how the trip was going, smooth and with good company, she wanted it to continue after they get back to the tower too. Even if she was going to get fussed over, though the pain has now subsided thanks to glorious painkillers.]
